Esta torre defensiva se terminó de construir en 1853 y formaba parte de la segunda muralla más interna de la ciudad. El edificio tiene 12 metros de altura y un diámetro de 34. Es la única de las dos torres de la ciudad. Junto con la torre de Wrangel, vigilaba la zona del lago superior y la puerta de Rossgarten.
La torre es una de las principales atracciones de la ciudad. Su majestuoso perfil, silueteado contra las aguas del lago, atrae a diario a multitud de turistas. Los tres pisos de la torre son visitables y hoy albergan el Museo del Ámbar.
